Nervous Tissue

• Nervous tissue is made up of nerve cells called neurons
• Neurons have longer projections in the body of the cell
• The neuron can be stimulated, and messages are carried along the projections from one part of the body to another
• The nervous tissue is found in the brain, spinal cord and nerves
• A neuron consist of:

  • Cell body-the central cell body contains the neuron's nucleus, associated cytoplasm and other organelles
  • Axons-typically carry signals away from the cell body towards another dendrite
  • Dendrites- typically carry signals towards the cell body
