Flooding

• Human causes of flooding:

  • Demand for housing means two houses are being built in spaces for one. This increases impermeable surfaces
  • Growing population results in increases urbanisation, meaning more facilities are being built with impermeable surfaces
  • Deforestation reduces the amount of trees which can take in and store water, increasing surface run off
• Physical causes for flooding:

  • Prolonged light rainfall can causes saturated ground, increasing surface run off
  • Rocks in mountainous areas are impermeable
