    •  Éamon de Valera agreed to negotiations with British Prime Minister Lloyd George.
    • Signed (Arthur Griffith and Michael Collins)on 6th December 1921, the Treaty included terms like:
    • Ireland becoming a dominion within the British Empire, called the Irish Free State.
    • TDs swearing an oath of allegiance to the British Crown.
    • Northern Ireland remaining part of Britain with its own parliament.
    • A boundary commission to decide the border between north and south.
    • The Dáil was divided over the Treaty, with pro-Treaty figures like Arthur Griffith and Michael Collins arguing for it as a stepping stone to full independence, and anti-Treaty figures like Éamon de Valera opposing it for not achieving a republic.
    • De Valera then resigned
