Ch19: Migration

• Causes of Migration:

  • Economic - moving to find work
  • Social - moving for a better quality of life or for family
  • Political - to escape political persecution or war
  • Environmental - to escape a natural disaster, ex) flooding
• Barriers to migration:

  • Poverty - the person moving doesn't have enough money
  • Personal reasons - people may be close with family or there is no one to care for family
  • Visas - some countries require foreigners to get a visa to enter the country.
  • Language - the person coming into the country may not speak the language, making it difficult to communicate
