Camera shots

• The film I have studied is sing street by John carney ,a key moment in the film was the first conversation between cosmo and raphina this is an important moment because cosmo’s attraction to Raphina leads him to form a band.it is also significant because it serves to show how innocent cosmo is .the film is about him growing up and finding himself as an artist and a person
• This opening moment conveys his innocence,and it is constrasted with raphinas supposed sophistication.there is a lot of humour in this first meeting and I think these camera shots will do much to bring out the humour and contrast between the two main characters.raphina stands on the steps and cosmo is looking up at her.this difference in height reinforces their own difference.as raphina looks down on cosmo,an upshot would illustrate her dominance and sophistication.
• A rapid down shot of cosmo would enhance the viewing experience for the audience because it would suggest his innocent he is.repeating these shots as the couple engage in awkward conversation would be both funny and engaging.it would also potray how intimidated cosmo is by raphina.i would use close ups both characters so that the audience can see their feelings clearly .I would use a straight - on flat shot to show cosmos friend looking at him having a conversation with the girl every one fancies
• When cosmo gets her number ,I would use a close up on his friends face to show the shock on his face.this would be both funny and engaging for the audience another key moment in the film is when brother baxter brings cosmo to the toilet ,physically assaults him and takes off his makeup.this is a shocking scene and the viewer can be drawn into it through the correct use of camera shots ,when cosmo explains to brother baxter that there is no mention of ban on makeup .this is a shocking scene and the viewer can be drawn into it through the correct use of camera shots
• When cosmo explains to brother Baxter that there is no mention of a ban of makeup in the school rules.I would a Dutch angle to create the tension.I would also use a close up to show the full extent of brother baxters shock at cosmos defiance.I would then use an upshot when brother baxter loses his temper. I feel that this would show his dominance and the audience would be even more terrified by his actions, I would use a down shot of cosmo after the assault he is left alone crying on the bathroom floor.a down shot would make him look smaller and more vulnerable
• I think thus would help the audience to connect with how traumatic brother baxter actions have been
