Mitochondria Donation

• The DNA from a third person being used in a special form of IVF, which can prevent mitochondria disease being passed on to children
• Purpose is so people can have own genetic children, free of disease
• Church of England accepts embryo research to alleviate human suffering but express concerns around mitochondria donation as they don't know enough
• The Catholic Church expressed concerns around this as 2 embryos would be destroyed in the process
• Secular view would be that many people would benefit from this 2500 women could benefit
• the mitochondria donation DNA only counts for 0.05%
