  • how were the participants deceived?
    they thought the allocation of roles were random but they were fixed also they thought the shocks were real
  • a weakness is that there is low internal validity because they might not have been testing what they intended to test as participants might have been responding to demand characteristics trying to fufil the aims of the study
  • a counter point of low internal validity is that participants were made to give a shock to a puppy 54% of men and 100% of women gave a fatal shock which suggests effects of milgrims study were genuine because people obeyed obediantly even thought shocks were real
  • a strength is support from other studies such as Hofling which found that power of authority of doctors had a greater influence on nurses behaviour than basic hospital rules
