Community Sentences

• Where a sentence is served in the community whilst being monitored by a probation officer, because it is:

  • too serious for a discharge
  • not serious enough for a fine/prison
• Behaviour management and restrictions

  Limitations in freedom of movement:

  • live in supervised accomodation
  • keep curfew
• Treatment and programmes 


  Group or individual programmes designed to rehabilitate offenders:

  • Counselling
  • Addiction
  • Anger management
• Community Payback 


  • Between 40-300 hours of unpaid work, completed in public.
  • Usually related to the crime such as removing graffiti.
