-in 1659, coureur des bois pierre-eront rodisson and Medard chouort des groseilliers had the idea to send ships into hudson bay instead of down the st.lawrence river
they brought their idea to new france but the leaders ignored their idea and fined them for trading without permisson
so, in 1668, they presented their idea to the british and were sent to explore the hudson bay route
-they came back with lots of furs so the british merchants created the hudson bay company
-in 1670, britans king, charles 2, gave the hudson bay company all the land where the river flowed to the hudson bay they named it ruperts land
-the british started trading posts by the hudson bay
