• when information goes to the LTM it can be permenant
• forgetting is most likely as we can't get access to them even though they are available
• what is proactive interference?

• a supporting study is McGeoch and McDonald where they made the participant learn 10 words until the could recall them with accuracy and thye had 6 different groups with different words
• findings of McGoech and McDonald is that when participants was asked to recall the original set of words the words that were similar had the worst recall. This shows that interference is strongest when memories are similar
• a supporting study is Baddeley and Hitch where they asked rugby players to recall names of teams they had played during the rugby season
• Baddeley and Hitch found that players who played the most games had the worst recall
