experiment two

Cards (8)

  • 250 students shown a short film of a multi-car accident
  • they were then asked questions about it
  • split into three groups of 50
  • group one were asked : "how fast were the cars going when they hit each other?"
  • group two were asked: "how fast were the cars going when they smashed into each other?"
  • group three were asked nothing about the speed
  • all the groups then cam back a week later and were asked if they saw any broken glass even though there was none in the film
  • the results show that if the leading question has a more violent verb it means the participant is more likely to think there is broken glass which shows that leading questions can influence the way the participants will respond
