the aim is for the interviewer ro use the set of instructions to replicate the context of the original event and to search through memories using a variety of retrieval methods
there are 4 elements of a cognitive interview: reinstating the context, reporting everything, reverse the order, challenging perspective
reinstating the context is when the memory of the crime is enhanced when the psychological environment is similar to the one at the event
you then have to report everything so the interviewer needs to generate focuses concentration and there should be no interruption to the chain of thought
reverse the order is when the witness should be encouraged by the interviewer to make as many attempts at retrieval as possible by recalling information in a different order
changing the perspective means that the interviewee is encouraged to try and remember from a different perspective
