  • On 1 November 1897 at Biak-na-Bato in the town of San Miguel de Mayumo in Bulacán, as the tide of war and negotiation ongoing, Aguinaldo declared the Biak-na-Bato republic.

  • On February 15, 1898 the Philippines was involved in the war between the United States and Spain.
  • The Biak na Bato Constitution was drafted by Isabelo Artacho and Félix Ferrer which was based on the first Cuban Constitution. It was established and ratified in 1897. In Biak-na-Bato, Spain and the Republic agreed to a truce, exiling Aguinaldo's administration with payment to revolutionaries.
  • The Malolos Constitution was the first republican constitution in Asia. The Malolos Congress was inaugurated at the Barasoain, Malolos, Bulacan, where its primary task was to draft this constitution necessary for the establishment of a republic. It declared that sovereignty resides exclusively in the people. It also separated the church & state
  • The 1935 Constitution served as the fundamental law during both the Commonwealth era and the Third Republic in the Philippines. Its main purpose is to prepare for independence from colonial rule.
  • The 1943 Constitution was drafted during the Japanese Occupation by the Philippine Preparatory Commission and ratified by the Constitutional Assembly, but was never recognized by the United States. It granted limited independence under a puppet government.
  • The 1973 Constitution primarily aimed at facilitating the transition to a parliamentary system of government in the Philippines that was instituted during Martial Law.
  • The 1987 Constitution serves as the fundamental law of the Philippines, drafted after the People Power Revolution.

    "We, the sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid of Almighty God, in order to build a just and humane society and establish a Government that shal embody our ideals and aspirations, promote the common good, conserve and develop our patrimony, and secure to ourselves and our posterity the blessings of independence and democracy under the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and peace, do ordain and promulgate this Constitution."
