What is lay-up lamination
Used to make
3D
products from
fibre
based composites e.g GRP, CFRP
What are some examples of products made by lay-up lamination
Boats
and
yachts
Cars
for
theme
park rides
Props/scenery for
theatre
and films
What material are the moulds for lay-up lamination made from
Timber
Manu boards
(plywood)
High density modelling foam
How is lay-up lamination carried out
1.Mould prepped (timber, Manu boards like plywood or high density
modelling
foam)
2.Mould coated with
release
agent
3.Top layer of
gel
coat applied. Resin with
pigment
which may also have additives like to prevent degradation. Curing takes place
4.Fibreglass
matting laid over former. Poly resin brushed onto
matting
, small roller pushes out any air bubbles(stippling)
5. Stepc3 repeated until desired
thickness
is reached
6.GRP
allowed to set
