  Used to produce solid rod, hollow tube, angle, sections(I and T), channels in polymers
• What is extrusion used for


  Can be used to coat electrical wires with polymer e.g PVC for insulation
• How is extrusion carried out


  1.Poly granules loaded into hopper

  2.Archimedean screw moves granules past heater

  3.Heaters soften polymer

  4.Sufficient polymer melted, hydraulic ram pushed screw, forcing polymer through steel die

  5.Extrusion may be supported by rollers as it leaves, cooled by water or air

  6 Extrusion cut to desired length
