Tech isn't that important, they don't affect the fundamentals of what it is to be human.
Perception of the world changes who we are fundamentally. Tech changes this; manners related to tech influence how we see people. Which changes who and what we are as people.
Tait argues there is no core perfect person
Tech signals the end of teaching.
Teachers always have to deal with new tech development of some kind. They wont be replaced. Given the information available to students teachers will be required more than ever to guide students in the difference between simply amassing/collecting info and critiquing knowledge.
Digital tech is the answer to all our education problems.
Tech doesn't guarantee an excellent learning experience. The opposite - it creates a divide around who has access and who uses the in productive ways.
Conservative approach:
Tech is an irrelevant craze, to be actively limited and banned. Only allowed as leisure aid when learning ends.
Not valued and where used follows one mainstream perspective.
Liberal approach:
Tech is an additional tool students can use. Assist in engaging students in the subject; allows research and practice.
Makes traditional subjects more fun, supporting learning of knowledge and skills
Teachers may use tech to reach distance students or to teach ideas/skills in more progressive ways. Students don't control tech use overall but have some choice.
Critical approach:
Equitable use, equal outcomes in tech access and identity representation in tech use. Access can be seen as a human right issue. Support access for all in schools and representation of marginal groups.
Tech aimed at alternative use (apps that turn iPhones into hearing aids)
Teachers allow students to critique tech and its ability to influence identity
Post modern approach:
Complex tech ethics - critiques identity norm production and control in tech from many groups perspectives. To use tech in ways which allow multiple realities
Tech from different times/cultures/sub-cultures/fiction. Tech demonstrating out tech relationship.
