    A group goes through four stages whilst developing:
    • Forming
    • Storming
    • Norming
    • Performing
    Task cohesion is the extent to which members of the group are committed to working together to achieve their goal. Social cohesion is concerned with the amount that the group member is actually like each other.
    Carron- researched the relationship between team cohesiveness and performance and found that the greater the sense of task cohesion within a team the greater the performance.
  • LEADERSHIP
    Great man theory suggest that successful leaders have similar traits such as intelligence, assertiveness and ambition. This supports the view that leaders are born.
    Chelladurai said there are five types of leadership behaviour:
    • Training and instruction
    • Democratic
    • Autocratic
    • Social support
    • Rewarding
  • COACH
    • Talent
    • Teachability
    • Pressure
    • Will
    Impact the success of a team within the coaching. It is important that players feel liked and respected by their coaches.
  • SMITH
    Aim- to test the effectiveness of a training program for baseball coaches who work with children
    Method- 34 Little League coaches either underwent a training session or didn’t receive any training. the training session lasted two hours and focused on the use of reinforcement and encouragement to increase positive interactions between players and coach.
    Results- children who played for the experimental coaches reported a greater level of enjoyment playing for their coach and the coaches from the experimental group were rated as better teachers.

    leaders could be advised on how their behaviour impact success. For example leaders could use more praise with players and allow decisions to be made collectively and generally take more of an interest in the wellbeing of the team.

    send coaches on training programs and teach them the importance of positive reinforcement which could help to build a trusting relationship between coaches and players.
