  • Deictic words
    Words which take some element of their meaning from the context or situation
  • Deictic words are important in semantic because 1-they help in identifying the referent. 2-easier for us in communication

    involves a kind of change in the deictic center
  • Definiteness
    a feature of NP selected by a speaker to convey his assumption that the hearer will be able to identify the referent of the NP usually because it is the only thing of its kind in the context of the utterance or it is unique in the universe of discourse

    proper names - personal pronouns - noun phrases introduced by a definite determiner
