Exercise 8 - Debunking Myths

Cards (3)

  • Fungi have not been classified as plants
because of the composition of their cell wall, as well as they lack the ability to photosynthesize.
  • Generally, fungi are classified under four divisions:
    • Ascomycota (yeasts and sac fungi)
    • Basidiomycota (club fungi)
    • Chytridiomycota (chytrids)
    • Zygomycota (bread molds).
  • On the other hand, lichens also resemble plants with their foliage-like structures and form that resembles bryophytes and yet, lichens are communities of microorganisms rather than one organism
