Equilibrium

Cards (11)

  • Le chateliers principle
If a system at equilibrium is disturbed, the equilibrium moves in the direction that tends to reduce the disturbance. so only use to predict the quantity
  • Equilibrium position
Is the proportion of reactants and products which are present at dynamic equilibrium. this can be changed by changing the conditions of the reactions.
  • Products increased
if the proportion of the products is increased the EP is shifted to the right
  • Reactants increased
If the proportion of the reactants increased the equilibrium position is shifted to the left.
  • catalyst- condition

Adding a catalyst DOES NOT affect the equilibrium position, it increases the rates if both directions equally.
  • Concentration- condition - increase
Equilibrium will shift to the opposite side of the substance
  • Concentration- condition- decrease
Equilibrium will shift to the direction of substance deceased
  • Pressure- condition- increase
Systems try to oppose the change so equilibrium position will shift to the side with more moles of gas
  • Pressure- condition- decrease
System try to oppose this change so equilibrium position will shift to the side with moles of gas
  • Temperature- condition- increase
If temp increase, the system oppose this change by taking in energy to reduce the temperature. the equilibrium will shift in endothermic
  • Temperature- condition- decrease
The system oppose This change by giving out energy to increase the temp, the equilibrium shift to the exothermic
