Objective Immortality

Cards (4)

  • What does griffin mean by the universe is mind and matter?
God is the mind of the universe and the matter is the chaotic matter he put into order
  • For God and the world to exist panentheistically...
It means that God and humanity must share something. God must experience every single process within the universe and this leads to objective immortality. After death all individual entities in the universe remain forever as 'objects' in the mind of God, so in that sense they never die
  • Why does Griffin believe we are also eternal?
All our actions, thoughts and ideas continue to exist in every minute detail as objects in God's memory, and since God is eternal we are also eternal
  • Objective immortality summary
    - God is intertwined with humanity. He is affected by everything that happens in the universe. He does not have the power to stop creation, he can only persuade us to make the correct choices
    - after death we are all still 'alive' in the mind of God, so in that sense we never die
    - as those objects are alive to God, our self still exists and as God is eternal, that makes us and our thoughts, ideas, actions eternal too
