  • Orders in council
    • Made by the government in times of emergency
    • Approved by King and Privy Council
    • Allows legislation being made without having to be debated and voted on in Parliament
    • Used in times of emergency under Civil Contingencies Act 2004
    • For example, Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 - change cannabis classification from B to C back to B
  • By-laws
    • Made by local authorities (i.e.. councils)
    • Created under Local Government Act 1982
    • Confirmed by senior ministers
    • Can also be made by public corporation/companies
    • For example, no ball games (local authority) or no feet on seats (public corporations)
  • Statutory Instruments
    • Made by government departments, normally to make amendments to a current Act of Parliament
    • Most common
    • Power is outlined in the Enabling Act
    • Known as regulations, national in effect
    • For example, Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 - more breed of dogs added
