  • Analytic Sentence
it is one that is necessarily TRUE based on the senses or facts of the words contained in it (ALWAYS TRUE)
  • Synthetic Sentence
it is one which is not Analytic, but may be true or false depending on the way the external world is (the circumstances of the situation). (MAY BE TRUE OR FALSE)
  • Contradictory Sentence
it is one that is necessarily FALSE based on the senses of the words in it. Thus, it is the opposite of an analytic sentence. (ALWAYS FALSE)
  • Analytic sentences and Contradictory sentences are not informative
  • Synthetic sentences are informative.
  • We categorize sentences based on their literal, not figurative meaning True
  • Necessary Condition
the sense of a predicate is a condition which a thing must meet in order to qualify as being correctly described by that predicate.
  • Sufficient Set of Conditions
the sense of a predicate is a set of conditions (or criteria) which, if a thing meets them, are enough in themselves to GUARANTEE that the predicate correctly describes that thing.
  • Stereotype of a predicate
is abstract and refers to a list of the typical characteristics of things to which the predicate can be applied.
  • A Prototype of a predicate: refers to actual things, while a stereotype lists a range of the abstract characteristics of the actual thing.
