  • 1568 - another slave trade voyage endorsed by the Queen, helped by local chiefs in Sierra Leone capture 500 enslaved people, but the fleet was attacked by the Spanish in the Carribean. They took refuge in the port od San Juan de Ulua to make repairs/resupple, where they were attacked again by Spanish warships, only drake and Hawkins' ships survived. This ended British slave trading for 70 years and was instrumental to Drake's hatred of the Spanish and desire for revenge
  • 1570 & 1572 - planned to attack Panama to raid towns and local ports for gold
  • Plans for circumnavigation:
    • Sail along the southern coast of South America and up the Pacific Coast, return by the same route
    • Look to South America (Brazil and Peru) for opportunities to seize and raid Spanish ships
