Resolution

Cards (3)

  • The conflict in the Court scene is act 4 scene 1 was resolved in a partially satisfactory way because on one hand Antonio is saved from Shylock’s ,merciless demand for a pound of flesh, through Portia’s ingenious intervention, that involved her disguising herself as a male lawyer and she tookn advantage of  a legal loophole. Antonio and his close friends are relieved that Justice has been served because Shylock’s plans have been prevented.
  • Nevertheless there’s still some unanswered dissatisfaction with the resolution.Antonio escapes the bond by forfeiting a pound of his flesh, but shylock losses everything and he must become a Christian “He presently become a Christian” this takes away his identity and religious freedom. I strongly believe that there are glimpse’s of anti semitism in the resolution of this case.I also believe that it’s unfair to strip the Jew of his right to freedom.
  • In conclusion I think the resolution in this play was partially satisfactory as the resolute Antonio is free from the equivalent of a death penalty . But on one side discrimination was not sufficiently addressed, the grounds of discrimination are evident to Shylocks I’ll treatment as a Jew prior to his downfall and the unfairness in terms of justice when they were in court.
