• autologous transfusion - collection and storage of patients own blood prior to actual need
• blood transfusion - artificial transfer of blood into the bloodstream
• bone marrow transplant (BMT) - patient receives red bone marrow from donor after their own has been destroyed
• homologous transfusion - blood from another person
• packed red cells - only RBCs transfused (no plasma)
• plasmapheresis - plasma is removed from the blood and formed elements are returned to the patient with donor plasma
• whole blood - transfusion of plasma and formed elements
