  • additive - sum action of 2 or more drugs given to a patient - total strength is sum of the individual drugs
  • contraindication - condition where a drug should not be given
  • drug interaction - alteration of the effect of one drug on another drug taken at the same time
  • potentiation - use of one drug to boost the effects of another drug (total strength is greater than the sum of the individual strengths)
  • anticoagulant - prevents blood clot formation
  • antihemorrhagic - prevents bleeding
  • antiplatelet agent - prevents the action of platelets
  • fibrinolytic - dissolves existing clots
  • hematinic - increases RBC's or Hb
