    • Muhammad died in 632 - people to live by the teaching of the Qur’an and by doing this they’re living according to Allah’s will. Most of Saudi Arabia were Muslims at the time. When Mohammed died he had no successor. There was a disagreement on who the leader should be,some said it should be a family member and some said it shouldn’t. Some Muslims said it’s should be the person who knew the qur’an well
  • Some people believed that it should have been - Abu Bakr who was Muhammad’s close friend. Some believed that it should be his Son in law Ali.Ali became the successor but he was assassinate. This led to the major split in Islam this is known as Schism. 2 groups Sunni and Shia Muslims. 90 % of Muslims were Sunni - Qur’an is the leadership source/leader = not a descendant.Believed that Muhammad was the last and greatest prophet.

    • Islam developed from 700-900 CE major centres were in the Middle East.
    • Muslims gained control over Palestine in 1099CE over Jews and Christians. In 1453 Ce the ottoman empire defeated the Christian headquarters; Constantinople and they renamed it instanbul.
  • Islam is flourishing presently as many Muslims have emigrated and married people from Different religions converting them.
