Policemen and armed marksmen enter and order Mickey to lower the gun . He starts to do so , saying he didn't evem know if the gun was loaded and he wouldnt be able to go through with it . Mrs Johnstone rushes in and reveals the truth about the boys being twins . Mickey asks why she didn't give him away instead , realising that his life could've been completely different . He shouts , ' I could've been him ! ' and points the gun hand at Edward , accidentally shooting him . The police shoot Mickey at the same time . The play ends how it began , with both boys dead on the floor .
