    -increases hosts' suspicions of them as 'enemy within'
    -may promote anti-terrorism policies targeted at them
    -breeds further marginalisation > defeating goal of assimilation

    -assimilationist ideas may also encourage workers to blame migrants for social problems
    -resulting in racial scapegoating
