  • Before the cell divides, it duplicates its genetic information, each chromosome is an exact copy of eachother
  • In the first division, the pairs of chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
  • The pairs are then pulled apart, so each new cell only has one copy of each chromosome
  • In the second division, the chromosomes line up again in the centre of the cell, the chromosome arms are then pulled apart
  • It ends with four gametes, each with a single set of chromosomes. Each one of the gametes is genetically different from the others
