Organization of the neural tube

• Ventral en dorsal thickenings on each side of the neural tube form a pair of vententral basal plates and dorsal alar plates, separated by a ventral floor plate and dorsal roof plate
• the sulcus limitants separates the ventral en dorsal plates
• basal plates are ventral
• alar plates are dorsal
• The floor plate is ventral
• The roof plate is dorsal
• dorsal alar plate neurons form sensory areas
• ventral basal plates form motor areas
