cardiac output

Cards (3)

  • cardiac output= volume of blood that is pumped out of the heart by the right and left ventricles per unit of time
    • fitter individuals have a higher cardiac output due to thicker and stronger ventricle muscles
    • cardiac output also increases during excercise- blood supply can then match the metabolic/respiration rates of cells
  • heart rate= number of beats per minute
stroke volume= volume of blood pumped out of the left ventricle during one cardiac cycle
  • equation
    cardiac output(CM3min-1)=heart rate(BPM) X stroke volume(CM3)
