extra C02 in blood due to increased rate of respiration- C02 dissolves in blood forming carbonic acid
this dissociates into H+ ions which decrease PH of blood(acidic)
decreased PH detected by chemoreceptors(brain,aortia and carotid arteries)
chemoreceptors stimulated- send nerve impulses to medulla oblongata- send more impulses to intercostal and diaphragn muscles to increase rate and strength of contractions
more 02 in lungs-more C02 exhaled+removed from blood- blood PH normal and breathing rate returns to normal
