Motion

• Motion - The change in the position of the body with time
• Reference Point / origin / reference frame - The fixed point used to describe the position of an object
• Distance is the actual length of the path covered by a moving body irrespective of the direction in which the body travels
• SI unit of distance - metre
• Distance is a scalar quantity
• Distance is more than or equal to displacement
• Displacement is the shortest distance between the initial postition and the final position of an object.
• If an object starts from a point , travles a certain distance and comes back to the original point then the initial position and the final position coincide with each other, thus displacement is zero
• Displacement is a vector quantity
• Scalar quantities are those physical quantities that are described only by their magnitude
• Vector quantities are those physcical quantities that have both magnitude and direction.
