  • Statistical infrequency: Occurs when an individual has a less common characteristic than most of the population for example being more depressed.
  • Deviation from social norms: Concerns behaviour that is different from the accepted standards of behaviour in a society.
  • Failure to function adequately: Occurs when someone is unable to perform everyday tasks and deal with ordinary day to day life.
  • Deviation from ideal meatal health: Occurs when someone doesn't meet the criteria for a good mental health. E.g. can cope with stress, have a good self-esteem.
