Quadrats

• A square frame used to compare how common an organism is in two sample areas
• Method

  • Place a 1m^2 quadrat on the ground within the first sample areas
  • Count all the organisms within the quadrat
  • Repeat as many times as you can and work out a mean
  • Repeat for the second area and compare the two means
• Percentage covered - organism / number of squares x 100
