Global Warming

• The temperature of the Earth is a balance between the energy it gets from the Sun and the energy radiated back to space
• Gasses in the atmosphere act as an insulating layer, they absorb most of the energy which would normally be radiated out into space. This causes the temperature of the planet to increase
• Green house gasses:

  • Methane
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Water vapour
• Global warming is causing climate change
• Consequences of global warming:

  • Thermal expansion
  • Low-lying land being flooded
  • Animal habitat might change as temperature increases
  • Changes in migration patterns
  • Biodiversity decreasing as species unable to survive and adapt
