The inner city:
Old terraced housing and light manufacturing industry, dating back to industrial revolution, regenerated in recent decades (Urbanpolicy)
Residential:
Housing from a range of time periods which usually increases in value and size with distance FROM the CBD
Regeneration and gentrification now somewhat skewed this
Industry
Larger areas now associated with the edge of urban areas for space and cheaper land
Many inner city industrial sites have suffered from de-industrialisation & converted to other land uses but keeping features of industrial heritage
Green space
Parks are common but green space varies in size from playgrounds and allotments to sports fields and botanical garden
Out of town retail developments:
Origninally developed by supermarkets and expanded into other retail and entertainment
Had negative impact on town centres
Gov discourages them
Business and science parks
Found on periphery of urban areas with access to major transport routes
Often associated with unis
Informal settlements:
A features of LICs (slums, shanty towns) found along transport routes or undesirable land that's not been devleoped or on outskirts of city where more space
Transport infrastructure:
Associated with inner city and CBD radiating outwards towards suburbs and rural-urban fringe
