Homeostasis is the regulation of internal conditions of a cell or organism to maintain optimum conditions for function
Homeostasis can occur if theres a change in the environment or the body
Homeostasis needs to strictly control these levels to survive:
Water Levels
Temperature
Sugar levels
Body temperature is important as the bodys enzymes work at a temperature of 37
Ways body temperature is regulated:
Shivering - Muscles relax and contract, producing heat
Blood flows away from extremities
Extremities are parts of the body with a large surface area to volume ratio, so absorb heat easier. Blood flows away from these in cold conditions, so heat can be conserved in the core of the body
