Function of HOL

• Scrutiny- lords can veto a price of legislation and force the government to represent in the following year this power of delay forces the government. To think again for another year and possibly add amendments to make the legislation acceptable
• Legislative function- lords can play a crucial re in revising Bills that are sent from the HOC
• Represention- while the lords is unelected it has gained a reputation for standing up for rights of minorities and vulnerable groups
