making a solution

Cards (6)

  • method for making a solution:
    1. add known mass of solid into a beaker, wash the weighting bottle and add washings to the beaker
    2. add 100cm3 of distilled water to the beaker and stir with glass rod until it dissolves
    3. if it doesnt dissolve gently heat the solution
    4. transfer the solution using a funnel to a 250cm3 volumetric flask and add washings from the beaker and funnel
    5. fill with distilled water until 250cm3 mark
    6. invert the volumetric flask several times
  • what do i use instead of a measuring cyclinder for accuracy?
using a volumetric pippette because it has a smaller ucertainty
  • what should i use to make sure the solution in my volumetric flask is accurate?
    a teat pipette
  • what happens when diluting a solution?
wont change the number of moles but increases the volume so a lower concentration will be used
  • how do i calculate the new diluted conc?
    new diluted concentration =
original concentration x original volume / new diluted volume
  • whats the equation to find new concentration of a dilute solution?
= original concentration × original volume / new diluted volume
