• sustainable management means using the resources in such a way that they are still available for future generations
• large - scale deforestation is not sustainable and should not be encouraged at any point
• sustainable management can be at the local level but will be more effective if it has the support of the government at national level and further still if the world is involved (international level)
• deforestation disrupts the water cycle, with the reduction of trees, evaporation is reduced and so too the return of moisture to the atmosphere and the local climate becomes drier and warmer
• there are now only around 305 tribes left living in the amazon, which is a decrease from 350 in the 1900s
