  • My first point concerns the influence of Hollywood and its repercussion on political views.
  • I invite (y’all/you) to take a look at document 1 which is a speech made in 1950 by Harry Truman, (who was President of the United States at the time) during cold war
  • Cold War was a period of political and military tension between the United States and the Soviet Union from 1945 to 1991, marked by rivalry, nuclear arms races, and proxy wars, but avoiding direct large-scale conflict.
  • Harry Truman’s famous speech against the communism was giving some tips towards the fact that this fight shall not be consist only within the politics. In other words, when Truman used the “wherever it appears” (line 4) clause, it had been clearly understood that every single sector of USA could be the subject of this fight against communism.
  • Because a “loose” communism in any sector could create a domino effect which might spread the other parts of the American state. Hollywood was one of the most important fields of the fight against communism. In order to understand the American state’s dominance on Hollywood, in the first place “McCarty Effect” on American state structure should be analyzed.
  • Hollywood was one of the most important fields of the fight against communism.
  • McCarty’s most important trauma on Hollywood was the Hollywood Ten.
  • Therefore, McCarthyism’s paranoid implementations on Hollywood created a “blacklist” which is also known as Hollywood Ten.
  • In this context, very famous names of Hollywood respectively: Alvah Bessie, Herbert Biberman, Lester Cole, and so on are blacklisted for almost three decades by the House Committee on Un-American Activities due to their unconfirmed “major communist activities”.
  • In the cinematic industry, this led to the production of films with anti-communist themes, reinforcing Western values and portraying communism as a threat, shaping public perception during the Cold War era.
  • This anti-communism policy influenced global politics by promoting democracy and opposing Soviet expansion.
