why do we use a platinum strip for hydrogen electrode
hydrogen gas cant conduct electricity, so we need a metal strip to conduct electrons. platinum conducts electrons and doesnt react with anything itself
We need to use a platinum strip when neither side of an electrode’s half equation has a solid metal to conduct the electrons.
standard temp - 298 kelvin
standard pressure- 100kpa

fuel cell
requires continuous supply of reactants
alkaline fuel cell
hydrogen gas is oxidised into hydrogen ions at negative electrode
oxygen gas is reduced by water to hydroxide ions at the positive electrode
hydroxide ions migrate to negative electrode where the ions combine to form water molecules
