  • Leading questions - questions suggesting or persuading a person to give a particular answer to a question, with particular framing and wording. This limits the range of acceptable questions.
  • EWT Leading questions - Loftus and Palmer:
    American students were shown 7 films of traffic accidents, ranging from 5 - 30 seconds.
    They were then given a questionnaire asking them to give an account of the accident they had just seen.
    Critical question - “how fast were the cars going when they _ each other?’
    _ = smashed, collided, bumped and contacted.
    There was 9 ppts for every word.
    Results: the harsher the word, the faster the speed they estimated ranging from 31.8 mph to 40 mph
  • EWT leading questions Loftus and Palmer:
    A week later, ppts were asked more questions about the crash.
    Critical question: “did you see any broken glass?”
    ppts that believed the car was going slower answered ”no”, while ppts that believed the car was faster answered “yes”
    There was no broken glass.
