Cards (5)

  • Cell production
    1. Flow is divided into sets of tasks
    2. Each set of tasks completed by a work group
    3. Rather than one long stream, each work group responsible for assembling a different part
    4. Individual workers not carrying out repetitive tasks on their own within a flow
  • Cell production
    • Can increase worker productivity as they feel happier
    • Workers may take more pride in their work, resulting in higher quality products
    • Easier to alter or customise certain parts of the product to meet customer needs, which may help to boost sales
  • Cell production
    • Productivity is higher than job production
    • Productivity can be lower than flow production because the product is removed from the flow at each cell
  • E.g. rather than a car being produced in one long stream with each worker adding a different part, each work group might be responsible for assembling a different part of the car
  • This means that individual workers are not carrying out repetitive tasks on their own within a flow (as they would in flow production)
