  • Exposition - The part of the story where the author introduces the characters and the setting.
  • Climax - The turning point or most exciting moment in the plot.
  • Rising Action - This is when the conflict begins to escalate, leading up to the climax.
  • Falling action - After the climax, this is when things start winding down and events begin to resolve themselves.
  • Resolution - How the conflict is resolved at the end of the story.
  • Conflict - is a struggle between opposing forces.
  • Man vs Nature - Conflicts arising from mankind's attempts to control nature.
  • Man vs Society - Conflicts arising from an individual's disagreement with society as a whole.
  • Man vs Man - Conflicts that arise from one person's desire to dominate another.
  • Theme - the main idea or message of the story, usually expressed in a few words or phrases.
