  • Poor housing has direct and indirect effects.
    • Overcrowding - not having anywhere to study, nowhere to do homework and distrubed sleep
    • Families in tempory accomodation may change schools often, leading to missing out on work
    • Health = Greater risks of accidents due to cold and damp
  • Howard studied Diet & Health in (2001). He found that WC children have lower intakes of vitamins, energy and minerals, leading to a lower immune system and time off school. This can negativley affect efucational achievement of pupils in schools.
  • Bull studies the cost of free schooling in (1980). WC pupils may have lack of equipment, books, uniforms. This may lead to them reciving hand me downs, and may contribute to bullying in school to the WC pupils. However it could be argued that since 1980, there has been goverment poloices supporting the the cost of free schooling, such as Free School Meals, EMA's & Pupil Premium.
  • Fear of Debt
    30% of univeristy students are working class. This may be down to the fact that WC see debt negativley and as something to be avoided. Mnay working class students may go to Local Low status unis, due to lack of confidence - or educational achievement. (Barely a 1/3 of pupils on FSM get 5 A*- C)
