• s18 states

  whosoever shall unlawfully and maliciously by any means whatsoever wound or cause any GBH to any person, with intent to do some GBH to any person, or with intent to resist or prevent the lawful apprehension or detainer of any person, shall be guilty of an offence
• AR of s18- life imprisonment

  can be committed in two ways:

  wounding or causing GBH

  word "cause" is very wide so that it is only necessary to prove that the ds act was a substatial cause of wounding or GBH
• MR of s18

  is specific intent offence- recklessness is not enough

  must prove:

  do some GBH or

  resist or prevent the lawful apprehension or detainer of any person
